Programme de la formation

NEXT SESSIONS : PARIS: 18 and 19 November 2024 LYON: 21 and 22 November 2024 Timetable: 09:30-13:00 / 14:30-18:00 Speaker: Thierry Van Gyseghem The training intends to educate game developers and managers on the importance of a well-structured workflow to cultivate independence, empowerment, and a healthy work environment that promotes making memorable games. The training offers round-table discussions and practical exercises to measure the participants’ levels of understanding. The audience will be invited to speak up with the group, participate in the discussions, pitch ideas, shoot references with their peers. The content is kept light and achievable, through a low-preknowledge requirement of the participants. Feedback will be given by the instructor during the practical exercises. Each day starts and ends with a Q&A and reflection moment to ensure the participants have a chance to iterate on the knowledge that they gained. At the end of the two-day training, the participants will have gained structural insight and tools for team- and self-management when dealing with tasks given to them. They will be capable of applying this on a daily base and at any workplace. This course requires the following equipment: - Laptop or tablet. - Video recording device (camera, smartphone, etc.). Software (accessible from the hardware): - Software to build a spreadsheet (MS Excel, Google Sheets, OpenOffice Calc, ...). - Software to build a mood board (Miro, PureRef, ...). - Software for making a simple video montage (DaVinci, Adobe Premiere, ...). ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This course is eligible for a 50% subsidy from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, provided you are an employee of a video game or animation company based in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region. Objectifs de la formation

  • Understand the importance of implement a well-structured workflow, speaking up every day, and make people feel more comfortable expressing themselves in a group environment.
  • Understand the directional strategy of making memorable games and the three pillars on which it is based.
  • Master the four stages that make up a healthy and correct work process.
  • Manage a team within the 4-step work process by identifying issues in the process, and implementing structural checkpoints.
  • Teach animators how to direct their colleagues to independently shoot reference or mocap.

  • The course is primarily designed for animators and animation managers of all job levels.
  • Artists and their managers are welcome too as the training content translates well to their daily operations. The training will use animation terminology and examples, as this is where the trainer's expertise lies.
Prérequis
  • Working in the video game or animation industry
  • Be able to speak and understand English fluently
  • For the practical exercises, being able to:
  • Build a mood/inspiration board in software with which you are comfortable.
  • Construct a spreadsheet and perform basic calculations in any software you are comfortable with.
  • Edit a video using any software you are comfortable with.
  • Speak up in front of a group.
  • Perform in front of a camera.

    • Introducing shooting protocol on both the technical level of shooting, but also code-of-conduct towards colleagues and professional performers
    • Practical exercise: executing ideas from the previous day as a reference video
Équipe pédagogique

Thierry Van Gyseghem is a passionate game animation director known for working on multi-award-winning titles such as Baldur's Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2. His quest is dedicated to creating memorable game moments, which can only be completed by fostering a player-first mentality. At the same time, he cultivates a team culture of independence, empowerment, adherence to correct work processes, and above all fun!

Suivi de l'exécution et évaluation des résultats
  • Attendance sheets
  • Practical exercises with oral feedback and observation from the trainer.
  • Oral reflection moments as a group with questions posed by the trainer to test what material got absorbed and what got missed.
  • One or multiple case studies will be introduced by either participants or trainers and be solved as a group.
  • A written questionnaire form is to be completed individually at the end of the seminar (day 2) that tests if the participant has understood the essence of the seminar.
