NEXT SESSION : PARIS : 20 and 21 March 2025 Timetable: 09:30-13:00 / 14:30-18:00 Speaker: Thierry Van Gyseghem ⚠️Training in English The training will level-up any creative team manager on the importance of having healthy work processes within the team. These are processes that help you cultivate independence and empowerment and lead them to success. At the end of the two-day training, the participants will have gained structural insight and methods for team- and self-management when giving out and checking in with tasks, setting strategy and direction, and creating alignment between your project goals and your team. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This course is eligible for a 50% subsidy from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, provided you are an employee of a video game or animation company based in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region. Objectifs de la formation

  • Understand the importance of implementing a daily report -including stand ups- with your team, having the team speak up openly on progress, and making them feel more confident handling tasks.
  • Learn the relationship between Strategy, Direction, and Alignment by introducing pillars, keywords, and values.
  • Understand the four stages that make up a healthy work process, and its benefits on the team, and explore how to implement them in your work environment.
  • Manage a team within the 4-step work process by correctly applying the same four steps to your management process.

Pour qui
  • The course is primarily designed for animation managers (leads, producers, directors) and aspiring animation managers of video game productions. Art managers and aspiring art managers are welcome too as the training content translates well to their daily operations:
Prérequis
  • Working in the video game industry
  • Manage and Lead a creative team in a video game production, or aspire to do so in the future.
  • Be able to speak and understand English fluently.

Contenu de la formation

  • Part 1: Importance of Stand-ups for a team. This part starts with an actual stand-up as a means of introduction, and will cover the following concepts:
    • Methodology of Stand ups
    • Stand ups and team spirit
  • Part 2: Making Memorable Games: Strategy, Direction, and Alignment. Looked at through the lens of animation, this part will focus on:
    • Learning the relationship between Strategy, Direction, and Alignment.
    • Looking at “Memorable games” as a strategy.
    • Introduction to consistent vocabulary when directing a team.
  • Part 3: The 4-step Work Process This part will start with a roleplaying session as an introduction to cover the following topics:
    • Introduce the four steps that form a healthy and correct work process.
    • Translating the four steps into an animation workflow.
    • Implementing the four steps in your work environment.
    • Sharing experiences in a roundtable discussion will be encouraged to illustrate the statements.
  • Part 4: Managing The 4-step Work Process This part will be dedicated to implementing the 4-step work process in your team structure:
    • Explore how the process can fit in your team
    • Discover the team benefits of the 4-step process
    • How to apply the four steps work process to yourself as a manager
    • Sharing experiences between peers in the group will be encouraged to illustrate the statements.
Équipe pédagogique

Thierry Van Gyseghem is an experienced game animation director known for working on multi-award-winning titles such as Baldur's Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2. His quest is dedicated to creating memorable game moments, which can only be completed by fostering a player-first mentality. At the same time, he cultivates a team culture of independence, empowerment, adherence to correct work processes, and above all fun!

Suivi de l'exécution et évaluation des résultats
  • Oral reflection moments as a group with questions posed by the trainer to test what material got absorbed and what got missed.
  • Round-table discussions and Q&A sessions to address material the participants would like to receive a better understanding on.
  • One or multiple case studies will be introduced by either participants or trainers and be solved as a group.
  • A written questionnaire form is to be completed individually at the end of the seminar (day 2) that tests if the participant has understood the essence of the seminar.
